School: RPI Major: Biochemsitry / Biophysics Internship Mentor: Adam Famoso Hobbies: Watching movies as well as the Boston Red Sox, playing both competitive and non-competitve
sports. Returning intern from 2004.
| | Update - October 2007 - "As of now I am a junior, studying Biochemistry/Biophysics in
order to continue to either get an MBA or a PhD to work in the pharmaceutical industry. I am a
member of Lambda Chi Alpha here at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and I am also the Class of 2009
President. Also, I currently am in my second year of doing high-throughput combinatorial biocatalysis
research under Dr. Jonathan S. Dordick and Dr. Sarah Brooks at RPI in the Center for Biotechnology
and Interdisciplinary Studies." |

Eli worked on the Bulk Sativa Extractions project funded
by NSF. Working to conduct DNA extractions on over 400 strains of rice,
including most of the domestic varieties. Eli plans to attend Ithaca College
in the Fall of 2007.

Adam worked on the Bulk Sativa Extractions project funded
by NSF. Working to conduct DNA extractions, PCRs and agarose gel
electrophoresis on over 400 strains of rice, including most of the domestic
varieties. Adam's plans are to attend Binghamton College in the Fall of 2007.
In his own words: "To sum up my internship experience, it could be described in two
words,"eye-opening." It exposed me to science in the real world, working with real
people on real problems, trying to find solutions to those problems, not to mention the incredible
amount of fun it is to play with molecular biology toys.
| | Update October 2007 - I am currently a sophomore at Binghamton University majoring in biochemistry, a major which
the internship helped me select. My current career path is toward an MD, and then traveling to
Africa to do some missions work developing hospitals to deal with the immediately sick, and
instituting health programs with an emphasis on proper agriculture for the needs of the land and
people in an effort to combat malnutrition and undernourishment. |
